How to make Akutor (Tiv sweet potato pottage)

Ingredients

6 small-medium sweet potatoes
1 Cup Sesame seeds
4 cubes of Maggi or 2 teaspoons of any preferred stock powder
1 teaspoon salt or salt to taste
1 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup Palm Oil


Method

Rinse sesame seeds and drain through a seeve.
Fry the seeds on medium heat until slightly brown.
Allow seeds to cool down and then grind the seeds.
Peel and chop the sweet potatoes into small pieces.
Put in a large pot and cover with water and bring to a boil. 10-15 minutes.
Add Salt, Maggi and pepper and cook for 2 minutes.
Add in Palm Oil, cover and let boil for 5 minutes.
Lastly, add in ground sesame seeds and mix well.
Mash some of the sweet potatoes  if desired.
Some like it mashed while some prefer  it not too mashed. Click on the video below for further instructions.





How to make Ibyer (Tiv Millet Porridge)

Ingredients

1 Cup of boiled water
2 Heaped Tables spoons of Millet Four
1 Teaspoon of fresh ground ginger
Sugar to Taste

Method

Bring 1 Cup of water to a boil.
Mix Millet Flour and ginger with about 2 tablespoons of water.
Add Millet mixture to boiling water.
Stir quickly to avoid lumps.
Let boil for 2-3 minutes and add water according to your preferred thickness.
Serve with Sugar, Milk , Akpukpa, Bread or however desired.
